Raspberry Pi: AWS Automated Smart Greenhouse
What is a Raspberry Pi, and how do we make it control the climate? A Raspberry Pi is a small programmable computer that is about the size of a credit card. In this project we are going to use a Raspberry Pi, along with a few other tools, to allow us to keep a designated area the temperature we choose. You may be asking, why would we want to do this? The intended purpose for this project will be to create a greenhouse prototype. The goal of this project is to program a Raspberry Pi 4 so that it will check the temperature of the greenhouse every so often, then with that data, it will determine if it needs to turn on the heater or the fan. By doing this it will be able to keep the greenhouse within a temperature range of our choosing. Once we have the Raspberry Pi keeping our greenhouse within our temperature range, we will then build a dashboard that includes the timestamp of the last temperature of the greenhouse, the temperature, the humidity, and the status of the fan, heater, and sprayers. To complete this project, we will first need a Raspberry Pi 4 along with a temperature and humidity sensor. We will be using a DHT-22 for our temperature and humidity sensor. We will then use a heated light bulb as the heat source, and a fan as the cooling device to create a test environment. We will also need a small breadboard, connector wires, and a 10K ohm resistor. We will not be using physical sprayers to adjust the humidity in our climate. The sprayers were added for the purpose to show that is a reasonable addition to this project. Our greenhouse will be a plastic tote, this is what we will control the climate inside of. We will also need two IoT power relays. We will have one relay for the fan, and one for the heater, so that when the Raspberry Pi wants to turn on one of them, it will send a signal to the relay, which will then trigger the fan or the heater to turn on.
