Estimating Damping and Frequency-Dependent Wave Velocity Using Arrays of Seismic Sensors
This paper describes how beamforming techniques applied to signals acquired from arrays of geophones can be used to estimate propagation parameters in the terrain around the sensors. Specifically, we describe a method for estimating the speed of wave propagation as a function of frequency using array processing methods. We also describe how to estimate the attenuation coefficient across the array of sensors. For completeness, we also summarize previous results on estimating the impulse responses. There are many opportunities for applying signal processing to geotechnical sensing using arrays of sensors.
