DÉGRADATION DES CONDITIONS DE VIE DES POPULATIONS DES MARGES DES VILLES SECONDAIRES DU SÉNÉGAL : UNE URBANISATION CREATRICE D’INEGALITES À KAOLACK ?

Abstract: Current urbanization is a source of opportunities but also of the proliferation of spontaneous housing, particularly on the fringes of cities; those of Senegal are not an exception. This situation is particularly remarkable in Kaolack where the occupation of urban margins suggests spontaneous and unsanitary housing and difficulties in accessing public services. The objective of this article is to show that urbanization is also a source of social exclusion. The analysis carried out on the town of Kaolack results from an empirical approach based on direct observation supplemented by a field survey. Sustained demographic growth and a deficit in urban policies are the main factors of this non-inclusive urbanization. The resurgence of slums, the increase in illegal dumping, wastewater flooding the streets, insecurity and the frequency of diseases are the resulting consequences. Keywords: Secondary cities, urban growth, antisocial urbanization, Living environment, Kaolac
