Innovating the Future: Reshaping Education and Social Sciences Research for a Transformative World
Equity and inclusion have become pivotal concerns in current educational discourse, mirroring society’s broader commitment to justice and fairness. This study investigates the foundational concepts, real-world applications, and existing obstacles in fostering equity and inclusion within educational institutions. Educational equity entails providing all students—regardless of socio-economic status, ethnic background, or physical ability—with the necessary tools and support to thrive academically. This requires recognizing systemic barriers that limit opportunities for marginalized groups, including students with disabilities, from minority backgrounds, or low-income families, to ensure equitable progress. The research adopted a descriptive design and employed Google Forms as the principal instrument for data collection. Its purpose was to examine effective practices, including policy frameworks aimed at fair resource distribution and the promotion of inclusive school cultures that value diversity and cultural awareness. The study was conducted in Mandera West sub-county, engaging a sample of 50 parents and 70 teachers. Questionnaires were disseminated digitally, affording participants the flexibility to complete them at their own pace. Data analysis followed a causal-comparative model. The use of online tools supported efficient data collection while ensuring participant confidentiality. Responses were processed using Microsoft Excel, where frequencies and percentages were computed to summarize responses. The participants expressed strong support for inclusive education, noting its role in advancing social cohesion, providing equal learning opportunities, and enriching the academic environment for all learners. Their feedback underscores the importance of equity as a foundational principle in contemporary educational practices.
