“Formulation and Evaluation of Larvicidal Activity of Ethanolic Extract of Clitoria ternatea against Mosquito wrigglers”
Mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, and Zika are major health problems worldwide, and controlling mosquito populations is essential to prevent the spread of these diseases. However, using chemical insecticides has caused issues like pollution, harm to other species, and mosquitoes becoming resistant over time. This study looks at Clitoria ternatea, also known as butterfly pea, as a natural option to kill mosquito larvae (wrigglers). Clitoria ternatea has natural compounds like cyclotides, flavonoids, and saponins, which have shown the ability to kill mosquito larvae by disrupting their essential functions. In this research, we tested different doses of Clitoria ternatea extract to find the most effective concentrations for killing mosquito larvae. We analysed the results to determine the doses needed to achieve high mortality rates. The findings suggest that C could be a safer, environmentally friendly alternative to chemical larvicides. It has potential to be part of mosquito control programs, helping reduce mosquito populations and lower the risk of disease transmission. More research is recommended to improve its use in real-world settings and to ensure it‘s safe for other organisms. This study shows that Clitoria ternatea could be a valuable, sustainable tool in the fight against mosquito-borne diseases.
