Synthesis, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Activity Evaluation of Some Newly Synthesized Benzothiazole Derivatives by Azo Coupling Reaction
Benzothiazole is the most commonly used lead compound for drug discovery and development due to its numerous pharmacological activities. We have synthesized some novel benzothiazole derivatives by diazotization and coupling reaction between our lead compound 2-aminobenzothiazole, and different substituted phenols or anilines. Synthesized compounds were purified by recrystallization and then characterized by melting point determination and IR spectroscopy. After biological evaluation, some of those synthesized compounds show effective antimicrobial activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacterial strains. After this research work, we want to emphasize the area where azo compounds are produced by diazotization and coupling reactions are not only used as dyes but also may have a wide range of pharmacological activity if it is a benzothiazole derivatives.
