FOOD QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM USING IOT-BASED PH, GAS, AND TEMPERATURE SENSORS

Food, as a vital source of human nutrition, is highly perishable and sensitive to changes in environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and gas emissions.Even minor deviations from optimal storage or handling conditions can accelerate spoilage, leading to microbial growth, chemical changes, and ultimately foodborne illness or waste.Traditional methods of food quality inspection-such as manual checks or lab testing-are often time-consuming, costly, and not feasible for continuous real-time monitoring. This project presents a smart, IoT-enabled system that continuously monitors key parameters influencing food quality using an ESP32 microcontroller. The system integrates a DHT22 sensor to track ambient temperature and humidity, an MQ-135 gas sensor to detect spoilage-related gases, and a liquid pH sensor to measure acidity-an important indicator of freshness in liquids and semi-liquids.These values are displayed in real time on an OLED screen and logged via serial communication for continuous tracking and analysis. The modular nature of the system allows it to be adapted to various types of food environments, making it a practical and intelligent solution for real-time food quality monitoring [1].
