Compositional gradient Au–Cu bimetallic heterostructures for efficient electroreduction of CO2 to ethanol at low potential

A compositional gradient Au–Cu catalyst with Au–Cu 0 /Cu + surfaces was synthesized. This unique structure reduces CO 2 activation barriers, enhances *CO coverage, stabilizes C 2 intermediates and achieves 84.62% faradaic efficiency for EtOH production.
