the article deals with issues related to different positions and views on religion, explores the opposition and similarity of ideological religious and psychoanalytic views. The article examines the issue of searching for the meanings of existence in modern reality based on two different positions. The possibilities of internal and external reliance on values, attitudes – cultural, religious, philosophical - are highlighted. The author defines a psychoanalytic view of the emergence of religion, the necessity of this phenomenon as a function of an omnipotent, accepting, and protecting just father. Religion is considered in relation to patriotism. Religious dominants of patriotism in Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism are considered.
