Adaptive Repeat Quad Shot Radiation Therapy for Uncontrolled Symptomatic Fungating or Skin-Infiltrating Primary and Regional Nodes in Patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer: Durable In-Field Tumor Control Without Interrupting Systemic Therapy
About 20-30% of women with Stage I-III breast cancer (BC) eventually develop metastasis (recurrent mBC: re-mBC), and nearly 6% of new patients present mBC at initial diagnosis (de novo mBC: dn-mBC).1-3 For patients with mBC, systemic therapies (ST: cytotoxic chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy) are the primary treatment with consideration of locoregional symptoms intervention. Timely initiation and adherence to ST schedules are essential components of effective treatment.
