LEVANTAMENTO EPIDEMIOLÓGICO DOS CASOS DE CÂNCER DE COLO DO ÚTERO NO ESTADO DE ALAGOAS NO PERÍODO DE 2014 A 2024 SEGUNDO O SISTEMA BETHESDA.

This study aims to conduct an epidemiological survey of cervical cancer cases in the state of Alagoas, between 2014 and 2024, using the Bethesda System as a classification basis. The research was conducted using data from the Cancer Information System (SISCAN), with analysis of 520,823 cytopathological exams performed by the Unified Health System (SUS) in the 102 municipalities of Alagoas. The results show significant adherence to national screening guidelines, with emphasis on the highest concentration of exams in the cities of Maceió and Arapiraca. Despite the significant volume of exams, weaknesses in screening were observed, such as the low return rate of patients with altered reports, inconsistencies in records and underreporting of repeat and follow-up exams. Invasive squamous cell carcinoma was the most prevalent subtype, followed by adenocarcinoma in situ and invasive adenocarcinoma, whose detection was limited. The findings reinforce the need to improve screening methods and continuous monitoring of patients, with a view to early diagnosis and the effectiveness of cervical cancer control strategies in Alagoas.
