Artificial Intelligence in Vascular Surgery: an Ethico-Philosophical Analysis of Technological Advancement

The article covers some ethical and social aspects related to the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in vascular surgery, using the example of stroke risk prediction and personalization of treatment. On the material of medical studies, it is shown that algorithms (Random Forest, as well as a range of neural networks) outperform physicians in diagnostic accuracy, data analysis and prediction of complications. However, the authors demonstrate that introduction of the products of technological progress into public life requires humanitarian reflection since many significant problems are already evident: distribution of responsibility for errors, transparency of the “black box”, the threat of dehumanization of medicine and social inequality. The authors of the article conclude that human research and ethics are critical to maintaining a balance between technology efficacy and human-centered values. Without them, the introduction of AI risks increasing legal conflicts, reducing patient trust, and turning medicine into a mechanistic process that ignores the emotional and social aspects of health.
