Radar Detection Using gNB as a Sensor for Spectrum Sharing

The paper proposes a sensing method that is applied to cellular base stations (gNB) in time-varying wireless environments. Detection performance and parameter estimates are calculated using a new sensing algorithm. Several novel aspects of the sensing algorithm include a new chirp-rate estimator and a feature to reject between false alarm time samples. False alarm control using a threshold stage and secondary detection stage is also presented. In summary, using the fully occupied uplink-measured data and the sensing algorithm proposed, all radar waveforms are reliably detected at a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of interest. This sensing method can be adopted for efficient dynamic spectrum sharing where commercial users must coexist with federal users without causing harmful interference to their operations.
