Exact Far-Field Polarization Synthesis Through High-Fidelity Modeling of a Dual-Polarization Antenna
This paper applies recently developed high-fidelity models of a dual-polarization antenna to the problem of exactly synthesizing an arbitrary far-field elliptical polarization with a known radio frequency and in a known direction. The exact polarization-synthesis approach applies to both the transmit and receive modes of the dual-polarization antenna. A concise mathematical derivation produces a closed-form solution for the necessary external voltage gains and phase shifts (equivalently, temporal delays) for each port of an arbitrary dual-polarization antenna to achieve any desired far-field polarization. A practical example in which a notional dual-polarization antenna's two ports have differing but non-orthogonal polarizations demonstrates the technique's efficacy.
