Performance Analysis of an ALU with Various Adders and Multipliers for Image Processing Applications
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) is one of the basic building blocks of computer architecture and electronics and is tasked with the performance of arithmetic and logical operations. ALU is the master of calculation, comparison, data handling, decision, and execution of sophisticated algorithms. ALU finds applications in high-speed processing, microprocessor design, and digital signal processing. ALU design has seen meteoric rise with focus on efficiency, scalability, and low power for satisfying increasing demands of high-performance environments and embedded systems. Let us propose an innovative idea in Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) design inspired from the millennia-old "Urdhva Tiryakbhyam" sutra of Vedic Mathematics and high-speed digital technology. Replacing and combining high-speed Wallace multipliers with power-efficient adders such as Kogge-Stone, Brent-Kung, and Ling, we have created an ALU with enhanced speed, energy efficiency, and simplicity. Apart from accelerating computing, this enhanced design also minimizes power and complexity, making it suitable for applications today. Unlike conventional designs, our design harnesses the inherent parallelism of Vedic techniques and simplifies hardware architecture complexity and enhances computation by manyfold. By trading complexity for performance, this approach opens the door to faster, better computing solutions tailored to today's demands. Designed using Verilog HDL, this ALU is AI-, IoT-, and real-time-optimized, an ultra-high-powered solution for future technology needs. It is no longer a question of faster hardware—this is a question of breaking boundaries by harnessing the wisdom of millennia-old mathematical principles and high-speed digital innovations.
