BreathTune Karaoke: A Karaoke System with Displaying the Remaining Amount of Exhaled Air Using Stretch Sensors
Breath control plays an important role in the quality of singing, and managing exhalation is essential. This paper proposes BreathTune Karaoke, a vocal support system designed to assist singers with breath control by displaying the remaining amount of exhaled air during singing. The proposed system utilizes a wearable device equipped with stretch sensors located at the chest and abdomen. These sensors capture the body’s circumference changes, and machine learning techniques are used to estimate the remaining amount of exhaled air. The system presents these estimates in real-time alongside a model breathing waveform, serving as a guide during singing to aid in controlling exhalation. Evaluation experiments, which involved collecting breathing data during singing, showed MAE in estimating remaining breath volume was approximately 505.1 mL. Intervention experiments using the proposed system to assess how closely the remaining amount of exhaled air waveform during singing approached the model waveform displayed by the application showed a reduction in the discrepancy between the correct model values and the estimated values by 42.4 mL. This result indicates the potential utility of the proposed system in aiding breath control.
