Compressed transmission of remote network management information with synchronized context-aware dictionary

In this paper, we propose a compression method of information for remote network management, such as command-response messages and operation logs of network devices. The key technologies of the proposed method are tree-type, context-aware compression dictionary, and dictionary synchronization between local and remote systems. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method using command-response history and operation logs of actual network devices. The results show that when the dictionary used for compression is constructed offline, 1-7% of the compression ratios1 are obtained regardless of the used dataset. When the compression dictionary is updated online, the compression ratio degrades but remains far superior to conventional methods. We also confirm that pre-processing target information can significantly improve the compression ratio.

The key technologies of the proposed method are tree-type, context-aware compression dictionary, and dictionary synchronization between local and remote systems. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method using command-response history and operation logs of actual network devices. When the compression dictionary is updated online, the compression ratio degrades but remains far superior to conventional methods. We also confirm that pre-processing target information can significantly improve the compression ratio.
