A Comprehensive Study of RPL Attacks in Internet of Things Applications

The Internet of Things (IoT) explosive growth has revolutionized both the personal and business spheres by facilitating automated processes, streamlining data processing, and improving convenience. Significant security issues are brought about by this pervasive connectedness, though, especially in low-power and lossy network situations. IoT ecosystems are thoroughly evaluated in this study, which also highlights new security risks and weaknesses in IoT networks and devices. One major area of interest is the Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL), which is particularly vulnerable to sinkhole, black hole, and selective forwarding attacks. Although previous research has suggested a number of security solutions for RPL, many of them are ineffective in dynamic networks or come with significant energy costs.Analyzing RPL's weaknesses and suggesting a better trust-based security system that increases attack detection while consuming less energy is the main goal of this work. Without sacrificing performance, the suggested method seeks to improve network integrity, data secrecy, and routing dependability by including dynamic trust management. This research advances energy-efficient and secure IoT communication by providing a strong foundation for reducing changing cyberthreats in RPL-based networks.
