Increasing Saliva Volume using Respondent Conditioning Protraction by Sound Stimulus during Mastication

In this paper, we propose a wearable device that can increase saliva volume by sound stimulus using respondent conditioning. By using respondent conditioning, it is possible to increase saliva volume with a sound stimulus that is compact and easy to use. However, it is known that the effect of sound stimulus on increased saliva volume has gradually become extinct. To maintain the effect, the proposed system recognizes mastication and provides a sound stimulus after mastication. In other words, respondent conditioning is performed again during daily life. Evaluation experiments in a controlled environment, in which the proposed system operates ideally, showed that applying the sound stimulus during mastication significantly recovered the effect of the sound stimulus.
