Single-Step Design Methodology for PM Motors in Control Moment Gyroscopes Based on Practical Slot-Filling Factor Formula

Accurate derivation of the practical slot-filling factor is essential for optimizing permanent magnet (PM) motors, yet it is frequently overlooked in traditional motor design due to the complexity of iterative calculations. This paper introduces an efficient approach to derive the practical slot-filling factor through a second-order polynomial regression formula, enabling smooth integration into the motor design process. A single-step design methodology is proposed using this formula, offering both reduced computational time and improved accuracy. Notably, this methodology is applied to orthocyclic winding, a winding method previously underexplored for practical slot-filling factor estimation. As orthocyclic winding is widely used in control moment gyroscope (CMG) gimbal motors, the proposed approach holds significant promise for advancing CMG motor design, offering enhanced efficiency and substantial time savings. Experimental validation confirms the efficacy of the proposed methodology, highlighting its potential for rapid and accurate motor design in computationally demanding applications.
