KALKOVI IZ ENGLESKOG JEZIKA U SAVREMENOM SRPSKOM FILMU
The paper investigates the process of hybridization of the Serbian language through contact with the English language, in the theoretical framework of contact linguistics. The phenomenon under investigation is calquing – a type of borrowing that occurs when linguistic elements are literally translated from a foreign language. The aim of the paper is to identify and describe types of calquing in contemporary Serbian films. The corpus of this paper comprises four Serbian films of the crime genre: Humidity (2016), South Wind (2018), South Wind 2: Speed Up (2021), and The Only Way Out (2021), and a total of 24 calques. The calques are classified according to linguistic level and statistically processed. Research results show that calques appear at all linguistic levels and that they occur approximately every ten to forty minutes. Around one fifth of the calques are morphosyntactic and syntactic calques, around a third are pragmatic calques, and one half semantic, lexical and phraseological calques combined. These results imply that calques appear the most at the level of the lexicon of the Serbian language, which is in line with the claim that the lexicon of a language is the most susceptible to foreign influence
