Urinary Biomarkers to Detect Early-Stage Renal Disease Progression in Diabetic Individuals Without Concurrent Hypertension: A 30-Month Observational Study
Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is traditionally diagnosed based on urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Newer biomarkers, such as urinary cystatin C, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), interleukin (IL)-18, and angiotensinogen, may offer better prediction of renal dysfunction in diabetes without hypertension.
