Understanding Work-to-Personal Conflict: insights into its influence on Individual Work Performance and Organizational Citizenship Behaviour
Purpose The study examines how Work-to-Personal Conflict (WPC) shapes Individual Work Performance (IWP) both directly and indirectly through the mediating role of Organizational Citizenship Behaviour Individual (OCBI). It also tests the direct relationships between WPC and OCBI, OCBI and IWP, and WPC and IWP. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 478 employees working in various organizations in the Information Technology industry of India using time-lagged surveys (Study 1, n = 222; Study 2, n = 256). The analysis was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 22 and IBM SPSS Amos Version 24 software. Findings OCBI partially mediates the WPC–IWP relationship. WPC is negatively related to OCBI and IWP. OCBI is positively related to IWP. Originality/value This study introduces a distinctive perspective to the existing interrole conflict literature by exploring the construct “Work-to-Personal Conflict” to capture interrole conflict, and associating it with OCBI and IWP. Managerial implications for preventing WPC and promoting OCBI are discussed in the article.
