Terminating a midtrimester pregnancy complicated with central placenta previa: Clinician’ dilemma
Abstract: Termination of pregnancy in the second trimester has increased possibility of extensive haemorrhage. Moreover, if the pregnancy is complicated by defective placentation, the outcomes for saving the uterus can be endangering. A case of a nulliparous woman has been discussed who presented with six months of amenorrhea bearing an anomalous fetus, with central placenta previa. Various termination modes were discussed, and induction with Mifepristone and Misoprostol was eventually done with utmost caution. Despite the significant bleeding during expulsion, uterotonics could be used to control it, and the patient experienced no post-abortion complications. Mid-pregnancy terminations require a great deal of precisive judgments and awareness of gestational age, placental location, and concerns about preserving fertility for the patient. Management of these conditions has not been studied in detail hence necessitates the need to increase reporting of similar situations to establish a definitive protocol.
