Development and evaluation of the MBPS application: A blended-problem based learning tool for vocational interactive media design subject

The development of Android-based instructional resources utilizing the Blended-Problem Based Learning (BPBL) approach in the context of Interactive Media Design for Vocational High Schools is currently an uncommon practice. This research introduces the concept of a learning tool termed as 'MBPS' (Media-Based Problem Solving), which applies the BPBL method. The core tenet of the BPBL approach involves equipping students with the necessary skills to address the issues they encounter. This pedagogical technique facilitates flexible learning that can be pursued online as well as offline. The development process of the MBPS learning tool involves four stages: Definition, Design, Development, and Dissemination, strategically designed to fulfill the objectives of creating such a medium. The MBPS tool is essentially an application containing the course content for the subject of Interactive Media Design, specifically for Class XII students of the Multimedia Department in a Vocational High School. The efficacy of this tool was tested with a sample size of 34 vocational students, focusing on the fundamentals of HTML.Based on the results from this pilot study and the subsequent evaluations, it can be conclusively stated that the MBPS tool is a practical and efficient learning medium. It effectively integrates the BPBL approach, thereby making it a promising resource for the subject of Interactive Media Design.
