Research on Monitoring of Rudder Jam in Civil Aircraft Based on Simulator Verification

In the Fly-by-Wire (FBW) system, the rudder surface's feedback is no longer directly connected to the control device. When the rudder surface becomes jammed, pilots are unable to detect the fault through the control device. To address this issue, this paper examines the control characteristics of the rudder surface and develops a rudder surface jam monitoring algorithm. The algorithm's robustness and effectiveness are validated through two sets of simulation cases on the simulator. In the first set of simulation cases, we simulated normal flight conditions to ensure that the algorithm does not trigger false alarms during normal flight; in the second set of simulation cases, we simulated rudder jam situations under various flight conditions to confirm that the algorithm can detect faults promptly after a jam occurs. These simulation results demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the rudder surface jam monitoring algorithm. It can accurately detect rudder surface jam faults and issue timely alarm signals, providing pilots with prompt fault information and ensuring the safety of pilots and passengers. This has significant implications for the design of civil aircraft rudder surface <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$j$</tex> am monitoring algorithms.
