Quantitative Analysis of the Disadvantages of the Tail Suspension Layout of Civil Regional Aircraft
As the bypass ratio of the engine gradually increases to more than 10, the tail-suspended aircraft in the regional aircraft market is gradually replaced. This paper makes a quantitative analysis of the disadvantages of the tail suspension layout form of regional aircraft, and discusses its limitations under the background of current aviation technology development and market demand. Based on the tail-suspended regional aircraft, the analysis of the tail-suspended aircraft with high bypass ratio engine layout is carried out. Considering the three factors of the increase of aerodynamic drag, the increase of weight and the decrease of engine fuel consumption, the comprehensive benefit analysis of fuel consumption is carried out. The results show that tail-suspended high bypass ratio engine layout seriously weakens the economic benefits brought by the reduction of engine fuel consumption due to its obvious increase in aerodynamic drag. Therefore, for regional aircraft, the competitive advantage of tailsuspended high bypass ratio engine layout is far less than that of wing-suspended engine layout.
