General Design Guidelines for Civil Aircraft Latent Failure
Based on the characteristics of latent failures, this paper proposes general design guidelines for latent failures in civil aircraft, in order to avoid as much as possible latent failures associated with hazardous or catastrophic impacts in the design of aircraft and systems. When such latent failures cannot be avoided, two specific risk limitation methods, including residual risk limitation and latent limitation, are further proposed to ensure that the safety consequences of latent failures are acceptable, so as to provide an effective reference for the design and airworthiness certification of civil aircraft with latent failures.
