Experimental And Numerical Investigation Of The Heat Transfer Enhancement In Double Pipe Heat Exchanger Using Vortex Generators
This study investigates the role of vortex generators (VGs) in enhancing heat transfer efficiency in double-pipe heat exchangers. Double-pipe heat exchangers are widely used due to their simple geometry; however, their thermal efficiency limitations often lead to increased energy consumption and higher operational costs. VGs passively generate secondary flows, disrupt thermal boundary layers, and enhance convective heat transfer without additional energy input. Experimental tests and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, conducted using ANSYS software, evaluate the performance of prismatic VG geometries in improving heat transfer. The results reveal a strong correlation between analytical data and CFD predictions, with the error below 1.86%. The addition of VGs significantly improves thermal efficiency, presenting an attractive solution for industries to reduce energy costs and potentially mitigate environmental impact. This study not only highlights the functionality of VGs but also validates the CFD models, providing practical insights for designing energy-efficient heat exchangers. These results are particularly relevant for industries prioritizing sustainability, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in thermal management.
