Design and Optimization of a PCB Stator Axial Flux Motor Based on Combined Winding
The axial flux permanent magnet motor, or disc motor, uses a coreless stator with PCB-based armature windings instead of conventional wires. Stator loss, comprising eddy current loss and copper consumption, affects motor output. To improve efficiency, this study replaces spiral windings with a combined circular-trapezoidal PCB winding to lower losses and control temperature rise. Using ANSYS Maxwell for 3D finite element analysis, eddy current and copper losses were compared for both winding types. Results show the new design enhances heat dissipation, reduces losses, and improves the power factor.
