Time-constrained Preventive Dispatch of Hybrid AC/DC Transmission Systems based on Dispatchable Region of Offshore Wind Power

The uncertainty and variability of large-scale offshore wind power generation has brought great operational challenges of power systems due to the limited capacity of transmission networks. The concept of dispatchable region has been proposed to quantify the maximum capacity of renewable energy generation that a power system can accommodate considering comprehensive operational constraints. In this paper, a time-constrained preventive dispatch of hybrid AC/DC transmission systems is constructed to adjust the output of conventional generators within the first hitting time that wind power generation is likely to hit the boundary of dispatchable region. First, the sensitivity of conventional generators to the boundary of dispatchable region and the first hitting time are derived. Then, the preventive dispatch strategy is constructed to minimize the total adjustment of conventional generators subject to the first hitting time constraint. Simulation results show that the proposed preventive dispatch strategy can change the boundary of the dispatchable region, improving the security margin of hybrid AC/DC transmission systems with minimal adjustment amount and adjustment time.
