Effects of Electric Power Control Methods on Hybrid Turbofan Dynamics
This paper presents solutions aiming at improving the dynamic behavior of a turbofan engine with hybrid technologies by supplying electric power to engine spools. Research works devoted to studies of parallel hybrid gas turbine engines are reviewed. A thermodynamic mathematical model of a hybrid turbofan engine is developed that makes it possible to calculate the engine performance parameters in steady and transient operating conditions. The effect of electric power distribution control on gas turbine engine acceleration performance is investigated. Options for reducing the engine acceleration time with a required compressor stall margin and acceptable turbine inlet gas temperature overshoot due to optimal electric power distribution are shown.
