Implementation and Optimization of a KVM Video Subsystem Based on BMC

In the Keyboard, Video, and Mouse over Internet Protocol (KVM over IP) system, video processing serves as the core component that requires real-time capture and transmission of graphical data from remote computers to the client terminals. Implementing a video subsystem on a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) enables video encoding to reduce bandwidth consumption while improving remote control responsiveness. This paper presents the design and implementation of two complete video processing subsystems implemented using the latest image compression coding methods: a Central Processing Unit (CPU) -based Frame Buffer solution and a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) -accelerated processing architecture. Through comparative analysis of their performance, we will conclude that GPU processing achieves superior video streaming efficiency and reduced latency under appropriate conditions, so as to lay a solid foundation for the subsequent implementation of KVM over IP.
