Flexible Power Control for PV-Battery Storage Systems Using Cascaded Dual H-Bridge Converters
The increasing pressure of the energy crisis and climate change calls for a strong improvement of energy conversion efficiency. This paper presents a novel AC hybrid PV-battery system based on a cascaded dual H-bridge converter to overcome key challenges in conventional PV battery energy storage systems, such as limited voltage regulation, reduced power generation, and large harmonic distortion. The proposed approach integrates all energy conversion processes into a single flexible and reconfigurable converter, which eases hardware requirements and improves system stability. The control strategy ensures that PV arrays operate at their maximum power point (MPP) while the battery actively balances power and maintains high-quality voltage output. Furthermore, the balancing chokes between PV and batteries help to stabilize current fluctuations caused by sudden voltage differences between the modules and form a bidirectional DC-DC converter, which enables independent MPP tracking for each PV panel.
