OPC UA/DDS Gateway with Dynamic Semantic Mapping for Industrial Internet of Things
Industry 4.0 has imposed higher demands on the real-time performance and interoperability of industrial communications. While OPC UA (OPC Unified Architecture) is widely adopted in industrial automation, the client-server architecture faces limitations in high-real-time scenarios. Conversely, DDS (Data Distribution Service) employs a publish-subscribe model, making it suitable for distributed real-time systems, but the inherent protocol differences between the two hinder efficient interoperability. To address the semantic loss in OPC UA/DDS protocol conversion, this paper proposes a dynamic semantic extraction framework for OPC UA/DDS Gateway, resolving QoS interoperability challenges in the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things). Unlike traditional static configuration approaches, this framework dynamically maps OPC UA QoS parameters to DDS policies through a QoS semantic extraction mechanism. Experimental results on the Raspberry Pi 4B platform demonstrate that the proposed mechanism significantly reduces the transmission latency of high-priority messages by 84.43% while maintaining reasonable overhead. Furthermore, the multi-threaded architecture optimizes gateway throughput. This study provides an effective solution for safety-critical industrial applications requiring real-time QoS guarantees.
