Some Suggestions for Further Development of Microgrids in the Construction of New Type Power System in China

The microgrid is recognized as an essential part of the new type power system in future because the technology could promote renewable energy consumption, increase the system's resilience, help underdeveloped, remote communities to access to electricity, and help the utilities to guarantee their power supply service to key users. In China, there is a good foundation for both technology innovations and application developments of the microgrid sector as the country has now become a forerunner in both manufacture and markets in some key industries inclusive of PVs, EVs, and ES after implemented encourage and incentive measures for many years, and the microgrid sector is growing fast while China is constructing a new type power system in order to achieve her "double carbon" goal as early as possible. Several suggestions were proposed in this paper that might be beneficial to further development and applications of the sector in future, including revising the definition for microgrids in China polices and standards, adjusting the requirement on the interacting between on-grid microgrids and the grid, developing a clear, appropriate dispatch mechanism for on-grid microgrids and flexible resources within their domains, and developing a more lenient regulatory mechanism for the applications of electric-hydrogen coupling technology in microgrids.
