A Novel Wind Turbines Clustering Method Based on Their Transient Voltage Characteristics

With the ongoing expansion of wind farms, maintaining voltage stability in wind farms using partitioned voltage control strategies has become a critical concern. However, a significant challenge lies in the inability to perform real-time clustering of wind turbines using their transient characteristics. To overcome this limitation, the transient voltage trajectories of doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) are analyzed to establish their correlation. This analysis provides the basis for identifying dominant clustering result. Then, a novel clustering index is introduced to classify DFIGs with similar dynamic responses. Employing a hierarchical clustering algorithm, the dominant cluster result is effectively determined, thereby facilitating the accurate grouping of DFIGs. This method addresses the challenges associated with real-time clustering based on transient indices. Finally, simulation results confirm the validity of the proposed approach and its conclusions, providing a foundation for real-time transient voltage regulation in wind farms.
