A Partitioned Current Protection Scheme for Distribution Networks with Inverter Interfaced Distributed Generator
With the Inverter Interfaced Distributed Generation (IIDG) integration, the traditional protection may fail to operate due to the complicated transient fault characteristics. In this paper, a partitioned current protection scheme is proposed to address the impact of IIDG. First, the distribution network lines are divided into different protection areas. Then, the relationship between the positive sequence voltage and the positive sequence current generated by IIDG are analyzed. Aiming at the protection of the different areas, several protection principles are developed to improve the deficiency of the traditional protection. Finally, extensive simulations were carried out in an example system using MATLAB/Simulink software. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protection scheme has excellent adaptability to different fault locations and types.
