PSADEA-Tuned Circularly Polarized STSM Antenna for RF Energy Harvesting Application
In the present context, the IoT is quite important for creating an wireless connection system, which helps in addressing robustness in RF networks. We are studying a printed monopole antenna in the shape of a circular radiator with 50-Ω feedline. It is integrated with a PSADEA smart-tuned metasurface (STSM) as a superstrate that helps to deal with the problems in advanced technologies such as circular polarization (CP) and environmental radiations. Initially, we will closely examine the printed circular-shaped monopole antenna (PCSMA), specifically designed with a linear polarization (LP) attribute in the sub-6 GHz bands. The authors utilized a stair-cased partial ground plane to understand the shift from LP to CP. Further, the STSM was positioned above the monopole radiator to enhance its polarization bandwidth and gain for better performance, required to satisfy the performance trade-offs from an application point of view. The STSM antenna offered a measured 10-dB BW of > 100%, 3-dB BW of > 15%, CP antenna gain of > 6.5 dBic, antenna efficiency of > 85%, and an improved front-to-back ratio (FBR) of > -21.5 dBic with the 3-dB beamwidth of > 110° across the desired bands, intended for use in the RF energy harvesting and wireless power transmission applications.
