Design and Realization of a Switched-Fractional Inductor-based DC-DC Boost Converter

This paper presents the design and realization of a switched-fractional inductor-based fractional-order boost converter, offering significant improvements in voltage gain, efficiency, and transient response over conventional boost and switched-inductor converters. The proposed topology integrates fractional-order control principles with switched-fractional inductors to enable dynamic tuning of inductance, thereby optimizing energy storage and transfer. The theoretical framework is developed using fractional calculus and control theory, and the converter’s performance is validated through simulation and experimental results. The results demonstrate that the fractional-order boost converter achieves higher steady-state output voltage and faster rise time, with a maximum output voltage of 20V at a 50% duty cycle, and a 25%-30% reduction in settling time compared to conventional systems. The findings also show superior transient response, making the proposed converter suitable for high-efficiency power electronics applications. This design paradigm offers significant opportunities for advanced power electronics applications.
