Design of an Integrated Quadruple Step-Down Converter IC for 48V-1V PoL Applications

This paper presents the development of a monolithically integrated quadruple step-down (QSD) converter driver-control IC for automotive point-of-load (PoL) power supply applications with 48V bus input voltage, achieving 48V-1V DC/DC power conversion. The proposed IC integrates active power devices and gate drivers required for QSD hybrid converter control, enabling rapid deployment of QSD converters with high power density while maintaining efficient switching control across varying load conditions. Simulation results demonstrate that the IC operates at switching frequencies up to 1 MHz, delivering a peak conversion efficiency of 93.53%. The design addresses critical challenges in high-ratio voltage conversion for next-generation vehicular power systems, providing a compact solution with enhanced thermal performance and dynamic response characteristics.
