Scaled Dimensioning of Flat Equivalent Radiators

Simulating “primary” electromagnetic sources or scatterers through equivalent radiating surfaces is dealt with. The problem of defining the size of an equivalent radiating panel is considered. To keep the size of the panel limited, we propose an approach scaling the components of the field radiated by the primary source according to their a priori known importance for the representation of the field. A scaling based on the use of the normalized singular values behavior of the relevant radiation operator is, in particular, analyzed. The approach is assessed numerically for scattering test cases in a 2D and scalar setting.

Abstract

Simulating “primary” electromagnetic sources or scatterers through equivalent radiating surfaces is dealt with. The problem of defining the size of an equivalent radiating panel is considered. To keep the size of the panel limited, we propose an approach scaling the components of the field radiated by the primary source according to their a priori known importance for the representation of the field. A scaling based on the use of the normalized singular values behavior of the relevant radiation operator is, in particular, analyzed. The approach is assessed numerically for scattering test cases in a 2D and scalar setting.
