An Attempt to Construct a Japanese Version of Cultural Worldviews Scale

Cultural worldview is one of the factors influencing risk perception, including climate change. Kahan et al. (2007) developed a cultural worldview scale consisting of two subscales: Hierarchy–Egalitarianism (HE) and Individualism–Communitarianism (IC). We translated this scale into Japanese and surveyed 300 individuals. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted on each of the two subscales, and the results did not indicate a good model fit for either subscale. Although some reliability and validity were observed, further investigation is necessary. In particular, the short version of the IC subscale did not appear to be suitable for use due to its low internal consistency.
