High-Gain, Low-RCS Reconfigurable Fabry–Pérot Antenna With Fano Resonance

This paper presents a high-gain, low-radar cross section (RCS) reconfigurable Fabry–Pérot (F-P) antenna with Fano resonance. A frequency-selective rasorber (FSR) is integrated with an active band stop frequency-selective surface (FSS) with Fano resonance to form a partially reflecting surface (PRS). Through wavefront shaping due to Fano resonance, phase compensation can be realized. This novel design reduces the deterioration of the realized gain that originates from the FSR. In addition, by using active diode resistance in the active band stop FSS, the proposed antenna can switch between high-gain radiation mode and stealth radiation mode. In stealth radiation mode, it can realize in-band co-polarized RCS reduction (RCSR) without a matched load and can still radiate simultaneously. The results show that the proposed antenna can realize broadband RCSR in the frequency range of 3–15 GHz and the measured peak aperture efficiency reaches 60% at 8.35 GHz, exhibiting a good application prospect for low-observable communication systems.
