A Study on the Research and Issue Trends of Shipping Industry through Keyword Network Analysis

In this study, network text analysis was conducted on 1,656 research papers and 10,213 articles published from 2019 to 2024 to explore the latest trends in the shipping industry. The analysis of key extracted keywords revealed that the sustainability and competitiveness of the shipping industry, driven by the rise of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), were major topics of discussion. Additionally, there was significant interest in new shipping policies and strategies resulting from supply chain restructuring. Furthermore, it was noted that the shipping and port sectors are entering a new era through digital transformation, and both academia and industry are paying attention to the necessity of actively utilizing IoT and AI technologies to develop new business models and innovate operational methods. This study aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the shipping industry by structuring and examining these changes. Therefore, it has the following implications. First, by conducting network text analysis on academic papers and articles in the shipping industry, it has clustered and identified key issues from the past 6-7 years. This is expected to help researchers and practitioners easily summarize trends in the shipping industry. Second, by presenting a framework for analyzing trends in the shipping industry from multiple perspectives, it provides essential methods for analyzing future trends in the shipping industry.
