Layered Iterative Method for Allocation of Mixed Energy Storage Capacity based on Levelized Cost of Storage in Large-Scale New Energy Bases

This paper proposes a layered iterative optimization method based on levelized cost for the configuration of mixed energy storage in large-scale new energy bases, considering engineering practicality and solution efficiency. The top layer utilizes a simplified energy storage model to preliminarily calculate the total economic capacity demand for energy storage considering the new energy absorption rate and interconnection line power constraints. The middle layer calculates the levelized cost of alternative types of energy storage based on the total capacity demand and the characteristics of different forms of energy storage. The bottom layer selects the energy storage form with the lowest cost, considering constraints such as scale limitations, cycle efficiency, charge-discharge characteristics, and cycle life, and performs verification calculations, which are then fed back to the top-level model for iteration until all constraints are obtained. The effectiveness of the method is verified through a case study of a new energy base in the northwest region.
