Design Optimization Approach of Functionally Graded Turbine Blisk

This paper proposes a structural design optimization method of functionally graded material (FGM) turbine blisks, by utilizing a full-scale continuous transition between Ti-6A1-4V (TC4) and Inconel 718 (Ni718). A TC4-Ni718 FGM blisk is designed to address the complexity and unreliability of different material bonding in the traditional designs, to meet the functional graded requirements of high-performance aeroengine turbine blisks. Finite element simulations were conducted to compare the performances of different material configurations under typical operation conditions, and a swarm intelligence algorithm was employed to optimize the material distribution of TC4-Ni718 FGM blisk. The results show that the optimized TC4-Ni718 FGM blisk holds better performance in structural strength, stiffness and lightweight, which indicates the significant potential of FGM in the structural design of advanced aeroengine.
