Tuning of optical force on Rayleigh particles by charges

Numerous techniques exist for the modulation of optical force. Here, we introduce a novel method for tuning the optical force exerted on Rayleigh particles by surface charges. The scattering and internal electromagnetic fields of a particle are profoundly affected by its charges, leading to a significant enhancement of the optical force in specific regions. It is demonstrated that the charge-induced absorption enhancement arises from electric dipole resonance. This finding offers a new approach for the modulation of optical force and the study of optical manipulation via charge modulation.

Abstract

Numerous techniques exist for the modulation of optical force. Here, we introduce a novel method for tuning the optical force exerted on Rayleigh particles by surface charges. The scattering and internal electromagnetic fields of a particle are profoundly affected by its charges, leading to a significant enhancement of the optical force in specific regions. It is demonstrated that the charge-induced absorption enhancement arises from electric dipole resonance. This finding offers a new approach for the modulation of optical force and the study of optical manipulation via charge modulation.
