Speech-Language Pathology/Pathologist: Time to Revise Our Titles?
Choosing appropriate titles for our profession, particularly ones that stand the test of time, is a complex endeavor, given that our scope of clinical practice and our professional philosophies keep evolving and refining. In the 1970s, our clinical title in the United States evolved from "speech correctionists" to "speech-language pathologists" (Battaglia, 2010).In this letter, based on four reasons, I argue that it is about time for revising our titles.I discuss these reasons in no order of importance.
