Explorando nuevos horizontes: Impacto y viabilidad de una intervención basada en gratitud en personas adultas puertorriqueñas

During the last decades, a relationship between gratitude and mental health has been identified. Gratitude is defined as the tendency to recognize and respond with grateful emotion to other people's roles of kindness. In Puerto Rico, psychological literature about the practice of gratitude has not received attention. Therefore, the objective of the present research was to explore the impact and feasibility of an intervention based on gratitude on psychological well-being, satisfaction with life, and symptoms of anxiety and depression in a sample of Puerto Rican adults. To meet this objective, we conducted a pilot study with 26 participants based on a pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest. A statistically significant reduction in anxiety and depression symptoms, as well as an increase in life satisfaction among participants after being exposed to the intervention was found. However, no differences were found in average scores of psychological well-being. According to these findings we suggest conducting future research aimed at examining the efficacy and effectiveness, as well as the implementation of interventions focused on gratitude for the adaptive management of affective symptoms and well-being.
